Non-Electrical Machinery

The non-electrical machinery contributes five percent of the value of output and 10% of the value added in the industrial sector of India. There are nearly eight thousand factories in the country producing machines worth nearly Rs.100 billion and employing nearly 300,000 workers.

The machine tools industry is the backbone of the engineering sector. There are about 160 machine tool manufacturers in the organised sector and 300 in the small sector. The public sector giant, HMT Ltd., is the largest machine tools manufacturer in India.

Textile machinery is the largest capital goods industry with an output of nearly Rs.14 billion per annum spread over nearly 600 units. Besides, there are a wide variety of jute, sugar, mining, cement, etc. machinery manufacturers in India.
